This course is designed for students seeking to deepen their understanding and enhance their skills in the visual arts. Emphasis is placed on composition, creative expression, and the development of original artworks. Students will explore a wide range of styles and methods while strengthening their individual artistic voice. The curriculum includes an in-depth study of art history, with a focus on recognizing significant works and artists from various periods and world cultures. Students will engage in meaningful class discussions, analyze and critique formal works of art, and study artistic styles through slides, videos, and guided activities. Studio experiences will emphasize the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, as students build proficiency in drawing and painting techniques. A variety of media—such as pencil, pen, ink, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, and tempera—will be used to support both technical skill development and creative problem-solving. Through critiques, reflective writing, and dialogue, students will demonstrate their ability to respond to, interpret, and analyze their own work and the work of others in a thoughtful and constructive manner.
